The Cincinnati OH VA Medical Center is seeking well-qualified candidates for Nursing Assistant in one of our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) located in Georgetown, Ohio. The Nursing Assistants primary responsibility will be to support the clinical staff with phlebotomy, EKG, Oximetry, and other health care and diagnostic procedures. He/she will maintain controls in equipment and instruments necessary to support these activities. Good communication skills are a requirement, as the position requires interaction with several providers and a variety of patients needing these health care procedures. Duties and responsibilities are but not limited to: Receives and interprets requests or instructions for procedures from medical or health care personnel Receives assignments that require application of standard procedures that are identified and explained Understands and carries out the requests made by the health care professional or seeks assistance for uncommon, unique, or new procedures Determines technical factors, sets controls, and operates equipment and instruments Sets up specialized equipment for routine procedures Sets technical factors, adjusting for patient anomalies Sets operational parameters for laboratory and other equipment with few operating functions Reports equipment malfunction to professional staff Recognizes technical or equipment abnormalities and brings them to the attention of the provider Notifies provider of results and ensures original results are made part of the permanent record Schedules procedures, coordinating with other services Orders and maintains supplies for the unit to include specialized supplies pertaining to instruments used in the unit Assists medical staff with or performs diagnostic procedures used to diagnose medical conditions. Operates, calibrates, and maintains medical instruments and accessories used to assist with or perform standard diagnostic or therapeutic procedures requiring adjustments for abnormalities Positions patients in standard postures that facilitate patient comfort Explains sequences of events to patient as standard procedures are performed Follows a step-by-step process to assure correct operation of equipment and test outcome Provides limited orientation to staff regarding equipment or instruments used by position Provides assistance of a technical, specialized, or supportive nature to health and medical personnel in the diagnosis or treatment of patient illnesses or medical conditions Supports medical and health care professionals in tests and procedures to diagnose and treat medical conditions Performs a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking, recording and reporting to professional staff deviations in vital signs, taking specimens, labeling specimens for the laboratory Makes gross visual observations and identifies subtle changes regarding the patient's condition Performs standard diagnostic tests or procedures according to written protocol or as directed by the physician or other professional staff. Prepares and assists in the preparation and cleanup of the procedure room Sets up and lays out instruments according to type of procedure to be performed Prepares procedure site by cleansing according to physician or procedure requirements Recognizes and reports skin conditions such as swelling, scratches, and abrasions that may affect the outcome of the procedure Makes and reports critical observations and other reactions to the treatment team Secures the confidence and cooperation of patients during procedures Explains procedures, positions patients for desired results, and cushions and shield patients as appropriate Teaches patients and family members the necessity of continuing proper health care Provides basic patient education on pre-testing and post-procedure patient activities Performs administrative tasks such as maintaining control records for specimens and tests and documenting measurements taken Obtains and provides basic medical information for patient and caregivers related to medical and diagnostic procedure Verifies laboratory orders Clarifies unusual requests with initiating physician Documents patient care activities in the computer patient files per policy and procedure Demonstrates and maintains full competency in the use, pre-cleaning, and/or reprocessing of reusable medical equipment Ensures that appropriate Standard Operating Procedure and manufacturer's instructions are followed for any step in the use of RME Completes all annual mandatory training within appropriate timelines Completes annual competencies and verbalizes learning when necessary Completes skills checklist during orientation Maintains currency in practice by attending designated in-services Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7:30am-4:00pm Compressed/Flexible: Available Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
