Under supervision, performs duties which include, but are not limited to, equipment set up; preventive maintenance; repair and inspection of various clinical and/or non-clinical equipment to assure electrical safety and efficient operation within technical guidelines and manufacturer specifications. May coordinate and maintain Clinical Equipment Program. May coordinate assignment of work, oversee safety inspections, preventive maintenance, calibration, corrective maintenance, equipment evaluation, reports and quality control. May participate in teaching equipment safety factors to students and residents.
1. Analytical ability to gather and interpret data, to identify discrepancies, problems or issues, to obtain advice when precedents are unclear or unavailable and to maintain compliance with service policies and procedures.
2. Communication and/or interpersonal skills for routine contacts with internal and some external customers/stakeholders to discuss primarily factual information. Some discretion and conflict resolution skills are exercised, primarily with people within the unit/function. Courtesy and listening skills are required. The ability to read, write and comprehend procedures and technical literature in Bio-Medical Electronics and/or Clinical Engineering is necessary.
3. Technical knowledge of bio-medical electronics and related equipment in order to perform safety inspections and preventive maintenance.
4. Depending on level, may require thorough knowledge of existing codes and regulations concerning medical instrumentation.
Physical ability to stand and/or walk majority of the time; push and/or pull up to 100 pounds; ability to lift (above 5 feet) and carry equipment (up to 40 pounds) in order to transport and repair. Ability to stoop as required.
Manual dexterity necessary for working with mechanical tools and various types of electronic test equipment.
Visual acuity necessary for reading schematics, labels and distinguishing colors and coding.
