POSITION DESCRIPTION The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Director of Quality and Performance Improvement to join our team of professionals.
Develops, implements and evaluates the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) Quality and Patient Safety Plan in collaboration with the HWCOM Risk Manager.
Develops, studies, and provides training programs for staff to achieve targeted levels of performance on national quality, safety, and efficiency measures. Facilitates team or individual data collection, analysis, reporting, presentation, and corrective action determination.
Establishes performance measures against industry benchmarks.
Provides leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, and continually monitoring and evaluating the quality and patient safety plan.
Works with Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Clinical Analyst to ensure optimal use of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in order to track, monitor, and store patient information and glean outcome measures. Responsible for production of training materials for clinical practice staff use of the EMR in order to ensure full and timely capture of care management data to produce quality, safety, efficiency, and clinical outcomes reports.
Works with HIT Clinical Analyst to develop disease based focus studies and performance metrics as well as decision Supports tools such as best practice order sets, medications and testing, patient action plans and report cards.
Educates staff on quality management principles. Participates in the orientation of new staff. Works with the HIT Clinical Analyst and other departments to develop self-directed education opportunities for staff using mixed media.
Reviews database to identify at-risk individuals who could benefit from disease management and health promotion programs. Sets up disease registry. Works with FIU Health leadership to select National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measurement sets for specific diseases.
Identifies quality indicators relevant for the practice for structured measurement and potential quality improvement initiatives.
Manages accreditation/certification initiatives for facilities, primary care or specialty / disease cased recognition programs.
Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Master's degree in appropriate specialization and eight (8) years of experience; or bachelor's degree in appropriate specialization and ten (10) years of appropriate experience. Appropriate areas of specialization include Nursing, Health Care Management, Social Work or related area of health care focus.
Experience in dashboard development, utilization review and performance improvement.
Previous experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) is desired.
Previous experience in quality and patient safety preferred.
Training and/or Certification of Lean Six Sigma methodology.
