This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of a comprehensive cost-effective Infection Prevention and Control Program for the Regional Health system. The position will provide leadership, guidance and professional expertise in the oversight of infection prevention and control processes for system services including hospitals, long term care facilities, clinics, and home care. He/she oversees policy/procedure development, education, surveillance activities, infection control risk assessments, data collection and reports, mandatory reporting, compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and assessment of construction/renovation projects. He/she serves as a key partner and collaborator with medical staff and patient care leaders to continually provide infection prevention and control practices which assure compliance with evidence-based guidelines.

Develops, implements, and administers a system Infection Prevention and Control program, goals, objectives policies, and procedures which are compatible with and support the organization’s mission, values, and strategic plan. Annually updates required Infection Prevention and Control risk assessments and plans.
Ensures new ideas are adopted and implemented to continually support the Healthcare mission while successfully accomplishing those goals the organization must attain for its strategies to succeed. Ensures caregivers and providers share knowledge, understand decisions and the reasons why decisions are made and implemented.
Actively supports, maintains, and promotes organizational safety and quality initiatives. Communicates and educates providers and caregivers as needed to ensure organizational understanding and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Serves as the system administrator for Infection Prevention and Control databases, including surveillance program(s) and National Health Safety Network (NHSN).
Directs surveillance activities throughout the system.
Designs and provides Infection Prevention and Control orientation education programs, annual education programs, other continuing education program, and community education programs.
Manages direct reports within the Infection Prevention and Control program and provides Infection Prevention and Control leadership to indirect reports within the organization.
Builds collaborative relationships with internal leaders and caregivers and external agencies to develop and support evidence-based practices. Is the internal consultant for Infection Prevention and Control standards and practices. May involve system committee facilitation and/or participation.
