The Oncology department is a specialty Unit for managing Hematology/Oncology disorders. This unit is full of professional development opportunities giving employees the chance to become nationally recognized in receiving their Chemotherapy Certification and Oncology Nurse Certification. Another great thing the Oncology department takes pride in is the impact they have on the community. Employees are encouraged to help at different events such as the Relay for life, the Edith Breast Cancer run, and many more.
Oncology offers 12 hour (Day and/or night) shifts with every 3rd holiday and 3rd weekend worked. The department treats patients for medical illnesses, treatment, pain management, palliative care, hospice, and also medical overflow.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation & evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to designated area (critically ill adult and geriatric medical and surgical patients).
The RN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in the specific care area or unit.
Must have effective communication skills to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts, situations, and/or issues with peers, inter-professional colleagues, patients and families.
Must have strong clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills to analyze data and appropriately respond to changing situations.
Required to currently hold an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a NLC state.
Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications (i.e. ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NPR etc.).
